Miramar

Broward County’s first known residents were Native Americans who date back to some 8,000 years ago. They practiced a diversified pattern of hunting and gathering and made use of every edible resource they could find. The Native Americans battled themselves and Spanish settlers for hundreds of years culminating in the evacuation of the Tequesta tribe in 1763. Their mass exodus to Havana came once the Spanish ceded Florida to Great Britain at the end of the French and Indian War.

After the American Revolution, Spain received the land back from Great Britain in the Treaty of Paris. Great Britain in turn sold it to the United States in 1821. Broward County’s land was surveyed for the first time in 1825 and the path to the present had begun. In 1896, the Florida East Coast Railroad made the area accessible to anyone who chose to make the journey. By the early 1900s, settlers were migrating to the area in droves not dissimilar to how people visit the area today.

Miramar is home to a master park plan including 27 parks, outdoor sports complexes, public pools, baseball, football and soccer fields plus several basketball and volleyball courts. The tourism market brings hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue to South Florida cities each and every year and Miramar is no exception. Local business owners, entertainers and restaurateurs benefit greatly from the influx of tourists as do residents because local government taxes gained from the tourism industry help to fund a comprehensive beautification program to assist in the constant development of the city itself. The end result is gorgeous neighborhoods, lively downtown areas, sporty entertainment venues and attractive public squares. There are also townhomes and condominiums that offer many of the same amenities for their residents. All of the residential communities have the home owner in mind and most of the newer communities were built with clubhouses that cater to the residents.
